After a devastating hurricane season, the IRS has extended the Federal tax filing and payment deadline until May 1, 2025 for the following states impacted by storms in 2024.
Florida Tax Deadline Extended
Hurricane Milton, a Category 5 storm, made landfall in Siesta Key on October 9, 2024, causing widespread flooding, power outages, and billions in damage. The IRS announced full-state tax relief, extending deadlines for affected Florida businesses and residents until May 1, 2025, for filings originally due between October 5, 2024, and May 1, 2025.
Hurricane Helene & Milton Tax Relief for AL, FL, GA, NC, SC, TN, and VA
Category 4 Hurricanes Helene and Milton struck the U.S. beginning September 26, 2024, leading to catastrophic damage and over 200 fatalities. As a result, the IRS has extended tax deadlines to May 1, 2025, for businesses and residents in:
- Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina (full-state relief)
- Florida, Tennessee, and Virginia (partial relief, with possible expansions)
